Welcome to the Utah Chapter of the AATG
Welcome to our new website for the Utah Chapter of the AATG (American Association of Teachers of German). Bringing together teachers from elementary and secondary schools to university and college faculty and professors across the United States and Canada, the AATG is focussed on promoting both the German language and German-speaking cultures in our schools and communities.
Many people might be surprised to learn that in Utah, German is reportedly the most commonly spoken language after English and Spanish. Yet despite the high numbers of German speakers, native or otherwise, in the state, German has had much less representation and recognition in the state. We in the AATG are working hard to change that perception as we try to introduce German and the culture of the German-speaking countries to a wider range of students, classrooms and communities.
We are also pleased to support the new German Dual Immersion programs that started this fall in Utah. This development is a great step forward in getting a new generation of students excited about all things German (and Austrian, Swiss, Luxembourgish, etc.).
We hope this new resource will help provide a way of sharing news about upcoming events and initiatives for German in the state and nation, while also helping us coordinate the efforts of German teachers across the K-16 curriculum.
Come back and visit often as we also highlight German teachers and programs across the state.
Herzlich Willkommen!
